Aerobic Capacity
You will observe that your body would not require a weekly or a monthly clinic visit; you will be capable of working more efficiently if you try to boost up your aerobic capacity.
According to the news release of September 2011, recent researches have found a significant connection between aerobic capacity and life span. Researchers of Norwegian University of Science and Technology conducted a research on relation of aerobic capacity and long life, recently. They used a rat model to find out the relationship.
News concerned to the paper issued, stated that high aerobic content or high oxygen utilization is a sensitive indicator of a healthy life. Survival rate reduces in both healthy individuals and cardiovascular patients having low aerobic capability. During the experiment, many rats with varying traits were bred for either high or slow speed treadmill exercise tolerance test. During the experiment, researchers found out that the survival rate of rats with high oxygen capacity was 28-45% more than the rats with low exercise stamina. This research proved to be helpful in realizing that another method of measuring the life span, is to record the maximum oxygen intake capacity of an individual.
What is Aerobic Capacity?
Aerobic capacity deals with the maximum amount of oxygen that is utilized by our body during exercise. It is also referred as VO2 Max. (V – volume, O2 – oxygen). VO2 Max is a measure of Oxygen (in millilitres) consumed by per kilogram body weight in one minute. The highest VO2 Max is found in distance runners, cyclists or swimmers. Males in general are believed to have higher VO2 Max than the females, usually because of their labour contribution and body composition. VO2 Max is in fact measured as a brief session out of exercises with high intensity.
Oxygen capacity of an individual can gradually be improved with his efforts; it totally depends on you how you treat our body. Sometimes a slighter decline can be observed in aerobic respiration capacity due to certain factors i.e. aging, least physical activity or due to any chronic illness. High oxygen utilization is the basic necessity for the athletes as it maintains their physical health and stamina.
Physiology
When we exercise, our body needs to utilize more and more oxygen to function. Our lungs and cardiovascular system mutually works to deliver maximum oxygen to the body. The more you get involved in exercise, your system becomes more efficient in utilizing large amount of oxygen. Why it is important? As more oxygen is consumed, your body can sustain high intensity work load and makes your stamina strong to be able to work harder and longer.
Importance in our daily lives
By exercising you can not only improve the oxygen utilization but can also strengthen your heart muscle and maintain the function of your cardio-respiratory system. According to the news updates better cardio-respiratory fitness has a strong association with lower risk of morbidity and mortality. Initially, people engaging in exercises get tired in a short span of time but as they continue to do so, their body gets used to it and their cardiovascular system becomes capable of transferring large amount of oxygen to their lungs.
Increasing your aerobic capability is just like maintaining your overall health. You body is just like a machine. If we do not maintain our aerobic capability, it tends to decline within time. Small physical activities every day can help you get and stay physically fit. In this way you can defeat number of diseases such as high blood pressure, heart diseases, cholesterol etc. with high aerobic capacity.
